The city Parish of St John the Baptist is among the oldest in Cardiff. The church is next to city centre's covered market, and is the oldest remaining mediaeval buildings in the city after Cardiff Castle, dating from the 12th century. In late Victorian times there were six daughter churches serving the densely populated central area. There are twenty one Parish churches in Cardiff Deanery of the Church in Wales diocese of Llandaff, serving the city centre and its surrounding residential areas. Cardiff University Chaplaincy and its main campus are within the City Parish. St John's welcomes about a thousand city visitors a week and hosts many different celebrations for city institutions, charities, and individuals. Cardiff's mediaeval castle, the Welsh National stadium, the city's main shopping centre, national and civic institutions are based within the parish. We are called to share in God's mission by welcoming people of all ages cultures and traditions to worship, witnessing to Christian faith, knowing God and making God known by serving Christ in our neighbours. Vicar
of St John's : the Revd. Keith Kimber
